The Musée du Vieil Auvillar, also known as the Museum of Faience and Boatmen, is located in the town hall of Auvillar, Tarn-et-Garonne. This museum is a consolidation of the former museums of faience and boatmen. It has been managed by the Association of Friends of Old Auvillar since 1930, which also organizes guided tours of Auvillar's heritage. The museum received the label 'Museum of France' in 2003.
The museum displays over 400 local faience from the 18th and 19th centuries. These pieces trace the thousands of dishes, plates, and objects made between 1739 and 1909 in 20 small artisanal factories, known as 'fabriques'. This collection provides a glimpse into the local craftsmanship and industry of the past.
The museum offers an audio tour of the history of boats on the Garonne in past centuries. This tour is facilitated by a speaker system that broadcasts information about the history of boats on the Garonne. The Port of Auvillar was a former center of boatmen on the Garonne and originated from an old river toll known in 1204.
