Moqui Cave is a unique geological formation located in southern Utah, United States. It is situated approximately 5 miles north of the city of Kanab, along the U.S. Route 89. This sandstone erosion cave offers a fascinating glimpse into the region's natural history and geology.
The Moqui Cave has a rich history that spans several centuries. It was once used by the Anasazi people as a shelter or food store. During the Prohibition era in the 1920s, it served as a speakeasy. In 1951, Laura and Garth Chamberlain purchased the cave and transformed it into a tavern and dance hall. Today, it is a popular tourist attraction and museum.
The museum at Moqui Cave houses a diverse collection of exhibits. These include a rock collection featuring fluorescent minerals and fossils, pottery, spear points, and American Indian artifacts and art. One of the highlights of the museum is the dinosaur tracks, which are estimated to be over 140 million years old. The museum also has displays about the Anasazi and the Ancestral Puebloan, providing visitors with a deeper understanding of the region's history and culture.
