The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring the cowboy way of life, American Indian cultures, and the collective Montana western heritage. This organization annually inducts distinguished individuals who have made significant contributions to these aspects of Montana's history and culture. Although it currently lacks a permanent physical museum, the organization has been recognized by the Montana State Legislature and continues to work towards establishing a physical presence.
The Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame announced its first round of legacy award inductees on April 8, 2008. Trustees from the twelve districts voted on the nominees, resulting in 51 foundational members of the hall of fame. This initial round of inductees includes individuals who made significant contributions to Montana's western heritage between 1860 and 1920.
