The Mitchell House Museum, established in 1982, is situated in Thomasville, North Carolina. It is located on the Mills Home Campus, which is the original campus of the Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina. This location adds a layer of historical significance to the museum, making it a point of interest for those interested in the history of the region and the Baptist Children's Homes.
The Mitchell House, named after Rev. John Mitchell, holds a significant place in the history of the Mills Home Campus. It was the first cottage built on the campus in 1885, serving as a home for girls at the orphanage. In recognition of its historical importance, the Mitchell House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.
The Mitchell House Museum is accessible to the public by appointment for most of the year. However, during the annual Alumni Homecoming, which takes place on the weekend of the first Sunday in August, the museum has specific opening hours. On Saturday, it is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Sunday, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The best part is that admission to the museum is free.
