The Minnie Hill Palmer House, also known as The Homestead Acre, holds the distinction of being the only remaining homestead cottage in the San Fernando Valley. This redwood Stick-Eastlake style American Craftsman-Bungalow is located on a 1.3-acre site in Chatsworth Park South in the Chatsworth section of Los Angeles, California. The house stands as a testament to the history of the area and the pioneers who settled there.
The Homestead Acre and Palmer House have been preserved in their original state from 1911, when the surviving cottage was built. This preservation allows visitors to step back in time and experience the living conditions of the early 20th century. The house is maintained by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks and the Chatsworth Historical Society.
The Chatsworth Historical Society offers guided tours of the cottage. These tours are available by appointment for groups of 10 or more and are also offered on the first Sunday of every month from 1-4 p.m. This provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn more about the history of the house and the people who lived there.
