The Minera Lead Mines, once a bustling mining operation, have been transformed into a country park and tourist centre. Located in the quaint village of Minera, near Wrexham in Wrexham County Borough, Wales, the site offers a unique blend of history and natural beauty. Visitors can explore the remnants of the mining operation and enjoy the serene surroundings of the country park.
The Minera Lead Mines and the surrounding area underwent a significant restoration and regeneration process, funded by the Wrexham County Borough Council and the Welsh Development Agency. This initiative, which began in 1988, aimed to prevent contamination of local water supplies from lead, zinc, and lime spoil tips. The engine house was rebuilt and equipped with replica machinery, as the original steam engine was removed in 1914. A visitor centre was opened for public use, and the engine house is included in the tour.
