The primary mission of the Meadowlands Museum is to interpret the region's history. This is achieved through educational programs and displays of items that relate to the history of the region. The museum offers a unique opportunity to learn about the history of Rutherford and the New Jersey Meadowlands region in an engaging and interactive way.
As of 2005, the Meadowlands Museum boasts four permanent exhibits. These include an antique toy room featuring items from the 19th and early 20th century, an exhibit of local rocks and minerals (including fluorescent minerals), a pre-electric kitchen designed to resemble a kitchen of the early 20th century, and the 'homespun' room, which features early- to mid-19th-century items such as spinning wheels, dishes, and clothes.
