The Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum is a 5-acre arboretum and botanical garden that is situated on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in Lincoln, Nebraska. This location offers a serene environment for visitors to explore and enjoy the beauty of nature.
The Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum is home to a variety of mature oaks including black, bur, English, pin, sawtooth, shingle, shumard, and swamp white varieties. Other trees that can be found in the arboretum include blue ash, chestnut, pawpaw, sweetgum, black tupelo, and Scots pine. These diverse species of trees provide a unique and enriching experience for visitors.
In addition to the variety of trees, the Earl G. Maxwell Arboretum also features other plants such as lilacs, cold-hardy rhododendrons, and viburnums. The arboretum also boasts over 80 hosta cultivars and a 1-acre prairie filled with native wildflowers and bluestem and Indian grass. These additional plants add to the diversity and beauty of the arboretum, making it a great place for visitors to explore.
