The Marburger Kunstverein is a non-profit and registered association based in Marburg, Germany. It is dedicated to the promotion of contemporary art. This association is the carrier of the Marburger Kunsthalle, a significant art venue in the city. The Kunstverein was founded in 1953, emerging from an 'artists' circle' that included renowned artists of the city, such as the painter Franz Frank.
The Kunstverein has 525 m² of exhibition space available in the Kunsthalle. This space is used to display a wide range of contemporary art forms, from painting and sculpture to photography and graphic design. In addition to the exhibitions, the Kunstverein also hosts regular concerts with experimental music, led by Albert Kaul.
The Artothek, founded in 1984, is a unique feature of the Kunstverein. It houses a collection of contemporary art, which includes about 800 works of painting, graphics, photography, and sculpture. Visitors have the opportunity to borrow works from this collection for a limited time, providing a unique way to engage with the art.
