The Ludwig-Leichhardt-Museum is situated in the district of Trebatsch, which is part of Tauche, in the Oder-Spree district of the state of Brandenburg. This location is significant as it is the birthplace of Ludwig Leichhardt, the famous explorer the museum is dedicated to.
The Ludwig-Leichhardt-Museum was inaugurated in 1988 to commemorate the 175th birthday of Ludwig Leichhardt (1813–1848), a renowned explorer. The museum was expanded in 2008 to accommodate more exhibits and provide a more comprehensive understanding of Leichhardt's life and work.
The Ludwig-Leichhardt-Museum is the starting point of the Leichhardt Trail, a 54-kilometer long bike tour that takes you through the Leichhardt country. This trail offers a unique opportunity to explore the landscapes that inspired Ludwig Leichhardt and shaped his explorations.
