Light Keeper’s House and its collection

Light Keeper’s House
Source

The Lightkeeper’s House, situated at the end of Coast Guard Point Road in Grand Marais, offers visitors a chance to step back in time. Built in 1908 by the Life Saving Service, this brick house replaced the lightkeeper's previous shack made of scrap lumber. During World War II, the Coast Guard took over the lightkeeper's duties, and their families resided in the house until the station closed in 1982. In 1984, the Grand Marais Historical Society acquired the house and began its restoration. Today, the museum features items from the turn of the century, allowing visitors to experience the life of a lightkeeper in the early 1900s.
