Liberia is a historic plantation house situated in Manassas, Virginia, United States. Constructed around 1825, this two-story, five-bay, Federal style brick dwelling stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the era. Its parapet side-gable roof and a molded brick cornice with a saw-tooth design add to its unique charm.
During the American Civil War, Liberia served as a headquarters for both Confederate and Union forces, marking it as a significant site in American history. Notably, Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, along with other statesmen, visited Liberia during the War, further cementing its historical importance.
The City of Manassas acquired the Liberia house on December 31, 1986, with the intention of using it as a museum. The house is currently undergoing restoration and is open for special events and tours by appointment, offering visitors a chance to step back in time and experience a piece of American history.
