The Latvian Museum of Photography is the only museum in Riga that is solely devoted to photography, founded in 1993 and housed in an old merchant building from the 16th century. The building still has its colorful wall paintings and the historic parquet flooring ornaments. The museum organises exhibitions of Latvian and foreign photographers alongside their own displayed collections. It has a permanent exhibition called 'Development of Photography in Latvia. 1839 - 1940', with photographs related to that period. Furthermore, The Latvian Museum of Photography features an authentic painted background used in the photo studio of Martins Luste.
