The Lake City-Columbia County Historical Museum is a living history museum located in the May Vinzant Perkins House in Lake City, Florida. This historic house was built in the 1880s and has been preserved as a museum to showcase the rich history of the area. The museum offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and learn about the life and times of the Vinzant family and the history of Lake City.
The May Vinzant Perkins house, which now serves as the Lake City-Columbia County Historical Museum, was saved from demolition and renovated in 1984 by the Blue-Grey Army. This renovation not only preserved a significant piece of local history but also transformed the house into a museum, providing a space for the community and visitors to learn about the region's past.
Lake City hosts an annual Battle of Olustee festival downtown, with events held at the Lake City-Columbia County Museum. These events often relate to Civil War history, including reenactments of caring for wounded soldiers or performing plays about the war. This festival provides a unique opportunity for visitors to engage with the local history in a dynamic and interactive way.
