La Venta Museum-Park, situated in the city of Villahermosa in the Mexican state of Tabasco, is recognized as one of the country's most significant archaeological museums. It primarily focuses on the preservation, presentation, and research of sculptures from the Olmec site of La Venta, dating from around 1200 to 400 BC.
The museum is nestled in a park close to the Laguna de las Ilusiones in the northwest part of the city, which is situated approximately 10 meters above sea level. This location provides a serene and picturesque setting for visitors to explore the museum and its surroundings.
The most significant artifacts from the archaeological site of La Venta are displayed partly under protection and partly in the open air. These include 4 Olmec colossal heads and approximately 50 other sculptures that demonstrate remarkable originality and craftsmanship, especially considering that their creators did not have metal tools.
