Kinemathek Bern, also known as Lichtspiel, is a film archive located in Bern. It was established in the early summer of 2000 when the Lichtspiel association took over the threatened cinematographic collection of the late Bernese cinema technician Walter A. Ritschard. This formed the basis of a regional film archive.
Every Sunday evening, Kinemathek Bern offers a unique experience for film enthusiasts. Two film reels with short films from the archive are compiled and shown, providing an insight into the extensive film collection of the Kinemathek. This is a great opportunity for visitors to explore the rich history of cinema through the archive's collection.
The film archive of Kinemathek Bern currently comprises approximately 15,000 film reels. The focus of the collection is on regional amateur, documentary, and educational films. This extensive collection provides a unique insight into the regional film history and culture.
