Kastellaun Castle, located in Kastellaun, Germany, is a medieval castle that dates back to the 13th century. The castle, which is now in ruins, was first mentioned in historical records in 1226. Despite its ruined state, the castle still stands as a testament to the architectural prowess of the medieval period and offers a glimpse into the region's rich history.
The structure of Kastellaun Castle includes an inner and outer baileys. The inner ward houses the remains of the defensive bergfried, the enceinte, and two residential buildings. These architectural features provide a fascinating insight into the defensive and residential structures of medieval castles.
On 9 September 2007, a documentation centre was established in the lower bailey of Kastellaun Castle. This centre provides a pamphlet detailing the most significant events in the region from early times to the present. Additionally, the ground floor of the castle houses a 'House of Regional History', where visitors can learn about the Celtic and Roman past of the Kastellaun region.
