Joan Bodon, born in Crespin, Aveyron, Occitania (France) on December 11, 1920, and died on February 24, 1975, in Algeria, was an author who wrote exclusively in Occitan. His works, which include novels, stories, and poems, were inspired by the universality of life. Despite the usual contempt of the Parisian élite for minority languages, Bodon is credited as being one of the most prominent Occitan writers of the twentieth century. His mother, a storyteller from Rouergue, paved the way for his love and frequent use of traditional Occitan language folktales and figures.
The home of Joan Bodon in Segala has been preserved and transformed into a museum, L'Ostal Joan-Bodon. The museum, which opened its doors to the public in 2022, offers visitors a chance to delve into the life and works of this prominent Occitan writer. It serves as a testament to Bodon's significant contribution to Occitan literature and culture.
