Iwakuni Chōkokan is a public museum located in Iwakuni, a city in the Yamaguchi Prefecture of Japan. It offers visitors a chance to explore a wide range of art, craft, and historical materials.
The Iwakuni Chōkokan was built between 1942 and March 1945. It was initially used for the storage and display of art, craft, and historical materials donated by the Kikkawa family, who were the former lords of the Iwakuni Domain. The facility first opened its doors to the public in April 1944 and has been operating fully as a museum since the early 1950s.
The collection at Iwakuni Chōkokan includes a painting by Bukō Kokushi from the Kamakura period and the Ōuchi Edition Sanjūin, a pocket-sized printed version of Kokan Shiren's Shūbun Inryaku (a rhyming dictionary of Kanshi) issued by Ōuchi Yoshitaka in 1539. Both of these items are recognized as Prefectural Tangible Cultural Properties.
