Ingebrigt Vik, born in the village of Øystese, is recognized as one of Norway's greatest sculptors from the early 20th century. His journey as an artist began in his father's factory as a wood carver, later training at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen and the Académie Colarossi in Paris. His works are celebrated and displayed in various locations, including the National Gallery of Norway and the Ingebrigt Vik Museum in his hometown.
The Ingebrigt Vik Museum, situated in the village of Øystese, is home to an extensive collection of Vik's sculptures. Upon his death in 1927, Vik bequeathed over a hundred of his works to his home district. These pieces, crafted in terracotta, plaster, marble, and bronze, offer a comprehensive view of Vik's artistic range and talent. The museum, inaugurated in 1934, is operated in conjunction with the Hardanger og Voss Museum.
