The Immaginario Scientifico - Museo della Scienza (IS), formerly known as the Science Centre Immaginario Scientifico, is an interactive and experimental science museum. It has two locations, one in Trieste and the other in Pordenone. This museum is part of the new generation of museums, adopting the unique exhibition techniques of interactive museums. It invites the public to experiment and 'touch' natural phenomena through interactive stations.
The Immaginario Scientifico of Trieste has a rich history dating back to 1985. It was established following the Trouver Trieste exhibition in Paris, where it inaugurated the "Geode" of the "Villette des sciences" in 1986. Since 1999, the Immaginario Scientifico has evolved into a science centre, with its first permanent location in Trieste, at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics. The primary aim of the museum is to promote the dissemination of science.
In 2020, the Immaginario Scientifico of Grignano underwent a significant change. It closed its doors to reopen in a new location at Warehouse 26 of the Old Port. This move was part of a complex project that involved the reuse of historical spaces and the enhancement of the museum's collection. The new museum offers a comprehensive journey of creating new content and new multimedia, immersive, and engaging ways of experiencing and narrating science.
