Holmsbu Billedgalleri, also known as Stiftelsen Holmsbu Billedgalleri Henrik Sørensens samlinger, is a foundation that owns an art museum in Holmsbu, located in the Asker municipality. The museum was originally owned by Hurum municipality and was established in 1963. It is home to a collection of paintings by Henrik Sørensen, Thorvald Erichsen, and Oluf Wold-Thorne, as well as a selection of Henrik Sørensen's collection of faience, antiques, and books.
The Museum Building
The museum building, which was completed in 1973, was designed by architect Bjart Moen. The design was intended to blend in with the unique terrain and vegetation of the area. The building was clad with the red Hurum granite that could be taken from the site itself, which was partly a deep ur, and the approach was a atmospheric path up through the forest and to the gallery, which is in harmony with the rock formation at the top.
Exhibitions at Holmsbu Billedgalleri
In addition to its permanent collections, the gallery also hosts changing summer exhibitions. Since 2004, the management of the museum has been handled by Drammens Museum. This offers visitors the opportunity to see a variety of artworks and exhibitions throughout the year.
