The Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge is a railway museum situated in Wittenberge. It is located on the grounds of the former Wittenberge depot, which adds a layer of historical significance to the site. The museum is a great place for railway enthusiasts and history buffs alike, offering a unique insight into the history of railways in Germany.
Opened in the autumn of 2012, the Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge houses a collection of steam locomotives, including five of the 44 and 50 series. Notably, it also features the tender locomotive EMMA, built by Hanomag, and a local railway locomotive Pritzwalk, constructed by Henschel. These exhibits provide a glimpse into the engineering marvels of the past.
The Historischer Lokschuppen Wittenberge is not just a static museum. Three times a year, the resident associations organize events where visitors can see the locomotive shed and the vehicles in action. This offers a unique opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and movements of these historical machines. Outside of these events, the locomotive shed is open for visits on Saturdays during the summer season.
