Eisenhammer an der Roth, also known as Eisenhammer Eckersmühlen, is a former hammer forge located in the town of Roth, in the district of Roth, Middle Franconia, Bavaria. Today, it serves as a museum that keeps the art of hammer forging alive and reminds visitors of the time of the old smith families. The museum is nestled in a small forest, approximately 500 meters northwest of the outskirts of Eckersmühlen, by the Roth river.
The Eisenhammer Eckersmühlen museum is composed of several units. One of the main attractions is the old forge hall where blacksmith demonstrations take place on request and on holidays. During these demonstrations, museum caretakers heat a piece of iron in the fire of the forge and form a square nail under the blows of the heavy water-powered drop hammers. This offers visitors a unique opportunity to witness the traditional process of hammer forging.
Another highlight of the Eisenhammer Eckersmühlen museum is the permanent exhibition 'From Ore to Iron' housed in the former sawmill. This exhibition provides a comprehensive explanation of the process from raw material extraction to the creation of finished products. It offers visitors an in-depth understanding of the iron production process and the historical significance of the forge.
