Hidden Lake Gardens, colloquially known as Hidden Lake, is a sprawling 755-acre botanical garden and arboretum nestled in the scenic Irish Hills of southeast Michigan. The gardens are operated by Michigan State University and are renowned for their extensive collection of native and nonnative trees, shrubs, and flowers. The gardens were gifted to the university by Harry Fee in 1945 and have since become a popular destination, attracting nearly 45,000 visitors annually.

Arboretum at Hidden Lake Gardens

A significant part of Hidden Lake Gardens has been cultivated as an arboretum, showcasing a diverse array of flowering crabapples, beeches, lindens, maples, oaks, lilacs, and other trees and shrubs. This collection also includes approximately 600 specimens of conifers, including selected cultivars of pines, firs, spruces, larches, hemlocks, false cypress, arborvitae, and junipers, all displayed in a 5-acre garden setting.

Hiking Trails at Hidden Lake Gardens

Hidden Lake Gardens offers more than six miles of marked hiking trails, providing visitors with the opportunity to explore the property's diverse landscapes. These include oak-hickory forests, open fields, glacial kettleholes, and wetland areas. The trails offer a chance to experience the abundant wildflowers in spring and the vibrant fall foliage colors in autumn.
