The Hallock Homestead is a significant historical site located in Northville, Suffolk County, New York. This farm complex offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the agricultural lifestyle of the region's early settlers. It's an ideal destination for those interested in history, architecture, and rural life.
The Hallock Homestead farmstead comprises five contributing buildings: the main house, a barn, a milk house, a shop/wood house, and a privy. Each of these structures contributes to the overall historical and architectural value of the site, providing visitors with a comprehensive view of a traditional farm complex.
The farmhouse at Hallock Homestead, originally built in 1765, has undergone significant changes over the centuries. Initially, it was a one-story, five-bay structure with a central chimney. In 1833, a small room was added to the west side, and in 1845, the original dwelling was raised to two stories and topped with a broad gable roof. These modifications reflect the evolution of architectural styles and living conditions over time.
