Today, Grumblethorpe serves as a museum and is part of the Colonial Germantown Historic District. Visitors can explore the house and learn about its history and the role it played in the colonial era.

Historical Significance of Grumblethorpe

Grumblethorpe has a significant historical background. In September 1777, it was the scene of events in the Battle of Germantown. British General James Agnew occupied the house as his headquarters during the battle and was fatally wounded in the front parlor. Visitors can still see the blood stains on the floor where he died.
