Grube Wohlfahrt is a former lead ore mine situated in Rescheid, a part of the Hellenthal municipality, in the Euskirchen district of North Rhine-Westphalia. This historical site offers a unique insight into the mining industry of the past, making it an interesting destination for those interested in history and geology.
The Grube Wohlfahrt mine was reactivated in 1936 as part of autarky efforts during the National Socialism era, but was finally closed in 1940. After years of closure, the mine was reopened in 1993 as a visitor mine. This was made possible through the restoration efforts of members of the Rescheid local history association and scientists from RWTH Aachen. Today, it serves as a historical and educational site for visitors.
Visitors to Grube Wohlfahrt can participate in daily tours that take place at 11:00, 14:00, and 15:30. These tours offer a unique opportunity to explore approximately 800m of the deep tunnel on foot. The entrance fee is €3 for children up to 15 years old and €5.50 for adults. This experience provides a fascinating glimpse into the workings of a historical mine.
