The German Oceanographic Museum, also referred to as the Museum for Oceanography and Fisheries, Aquarium, is situated in the Hanseatic town of Stralsund. It is recognized as the most visited museum in North Germany, attracting a large number of tourists each year. The museum offers a wide range of maritime and oceanographic exhibitions, making it a great destination for those interested in marine life and oceanography.

Additional Sites of the German Oceanographic Museum

Apart from the main museum building, the German Oceanographic Museum also encompasses three other sites: the Ozeaneum, the Nautineum, and the Natureum. The Ozeaneum, which opened in July 2008, is home to 39 large aquaria with 7,000 animals from the Baltic Sea, North Sea, and Atlantic Ocean. The Nautineum and the Natureum offer exhibitions on various topics, including fishing, marine research, whale research, hydrography, sea routes, and the natural landscape of the peninsula.

Exhibitions at the Oceanographic Museum

The Oceanographic Museum offers a plethora of exhibitions providing information on a variety of topics such as fishing, the environment, marine conservation, marine and ocean research, and the flora and fauna of the Baltic Sea region. The museum houses just under 50 aquaria that contain more than 600 living sea creatures, including giant tortoises and Polynesian fish, offering visitors a unique opportunity to observe these creatures up close.
