Gayle Mill, a historical landmark dating back to 1784, is considered to be the oldest structurally unaltered cotton mill still standing. The mill is situated in the picturesque hamlet of Gayle in Wensleydale, England, just a mile south of the market town of Hawes. It is nestled within the scenic Yorkshire Dales National Park, making it a significant point of interest for those exploring the region.
In 2008, the mill was reopened to the public under the operation of the Gayle Mill Trust. The following year, Griff Rhys Jones, host of the Restoration programme that brought national attention to the mill, returned to film an update on the restoration work.
In 2021, after extensive renovation work, the mill was once again reopened to the public on a part-time basis. Visitors can now access more information about the mill and plan their visit through its dedicated website, www.gaylemill.org.
