The city of Gallup renovated the building in 1996 to serve as the Gallup Cultural Center, which is operated by the Southwest Indian Foundation. Besides being a passenger waiting area, the building also houses the Gallup Visitor Center, which moved to the station in 2004. This makes it a central point for visitors to the city.

The Gallup Cultural Center, located in Gallup, New Mexico, offers visitors a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the area. Housed in a historic railroad depot, the center serves as both a museum and a community gathering space. Exhibits showcase the art, history, and traditions of Native American cultures, particularly those of the Navajo and Zuni peoples.

Visitors appreciate the center's displays of authentic Native American jewelry, pottery, and textiles. The gallery frequently features rotating exhibits of local artists, which many find engaging. The building's architecture, with its preserved railroad elements, adds to the overall experience.

However, some guests note that the museum is relatively small and can be explored in a short amount of time. A few visitors mention that they would like to see more interactive exhibits or in-depth information about the cultures represented.

The onsite gift shop receives positive reviews for its selection of locally made crafts and art pieces, though prices can be on the higher side. The staff is generally described as friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the visit with their insights into the exhibits and local culture.

While the Gallup Cultural Center provides a good introduction to the area's cultural landscape, it may not offer the depth that some museum enthusiasts seek. Nevertheless, for those interested in Southwest Native American culture and local history, it serves as a worthwhile stop in Gallup.
