The Galileo Wissenswelt is a museum situated on the Baltic Sea island of Fehmarn in Ostholstein. This museum is a unique blend of a traditional collection museum and a children's and youth museum, emphasizing the concept of 'understanding through grasping'. It offers a comprehensive exploration of natural history and technology across its 3,200 square meters of space in the main building in Burg on Fehmarn.
Thematic Areas of the Museum
The Galileo Wissenswelt museum is divided into two main thematic areas: 'Natural History' and 'Technology'. In the 'Natural History' section, visitors are taken on a chronological journey through the history of the Earth, from the origin of life to humans and their environment. This section features a large collection of fossils, minerals, and dinosaur models. The 'Technology' section helps visitors understand technical and physical phenomena through interactive experiments and a historical object collection.
External Branch of the Museum
In addition to the main building, the Galileo Wissenswelt also has an external branch named 'Overseas - Art, Culture and Peoples Forum'. This branch is located at the harbor in Burgstaaken on Fehmarn and covers an area of 500 square meters. It serves as a place of intercultural understanding and displays an extensive collection of traditional handicrafts from all continents.
