Gairloch Museum is located in a converted nuclear bunker with galleries showcasing the history, culture and natural heritage of this beautiful area of the North West Highlands. Displays include the original lens from Rubh Re lighthouse, a replica croft house showing how people used to live and an interactive gallery about our magnificent natural world. With a superb 25 minute film, recollecting the way of life and rapid rate of change in the 1940s and 50s, and lots of hands-on interactive for our younger visitors, a visit usually takes between 1 - 2 hours. Behind the Museum you can visit the Achtercairn Archaeology Trail which explores the remains of prehistoric roundhouses and over the road in front of the Museum are a range of Museum objects linked the fishing industry as well as some large geology stone samples. Our Museum Shop, Cafe and Art Galleries are free to visit.
