The NMAC Foundation, also known as Stiftelsen Wanås in Swedish, is a private museum space that is dedicated to contemporary art and the exploration of the relationships that exist between art and nature. The foundation was inaugurated in June 2001 and features works from artists of various nationalities. The artworks that make up the collection are created specifically for the location where they will be installed, making them unique in-situ art projects.
The NMAC Foundation is located within the Montenmedio Field, which spans approximately 500 hectares. The foundation occupies 30 of these hectares. It is situated within the Mediterranean Forest, in the municipality of Vejer de la Frontera, Cádiz. It borders the south with the Natural Park of La Breña and Marshes of Barbate.
The collection of the NMAC Foundation is established in two distinct regions: the Mediterranean Forest and the old military barracks. In the Mediterranean Forest, a signage project was carried out by the French artistic collective “Campment Urbain”. The old military barracks have been rehabilitated to house the foundation's facilities: reception and workshops, exhibition rooms, activity workshops, library, and documentation center.
