The Fukuoka Art Museum boasts a systematic collection of modern art from Western Japan. It features works by renowned local artists such as Aoki Shigeru, Sakamoto Hanjirō, Kojima Zenzaburō, and Tomita Keisen, as well as Yayoi Kusama. Additionally, the museum houses pieces by many prominent international artists from the 20th century, including Chagall, Miró, Dali, Warhol, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Cultural Treasures at the Fukuoka Art Museum

In addition to its modern art collection, the Fukuoka Art Museum also houses about 500 treasures of the former Kuroda princely family, including important cultural properties. The museum's collection also includes about 100 Buddhist artworks from the Tōkōin and 350 items from the Matsunaga Memorial Hall in Odawara. Among these are Ogata Kenzan's "Flower Baskets" and Nonomura Ninsei's "Color-decorated Tea Containers with the Mountains of Yoshino", along with many other objects related to the tea ceremony.
