Fort New Salem is a historical frontier settlement located in Salem, Harrison County, West Virginia. It is situated adjacent to Salem International University. The settlement is made up of nineteenth-century log structures, providing a glimpse into the past and the way of life during that period.
Fort New Salem serves as a living history outdoor museum. It interprets the history, crafts, and lifestyles of the area, providing visitors with an immersive experience of the past. The museum showcases the way of life during the nineteenth century, including the crafts and traditions of the time.
The construction of Fort New Salem began in 1971, with over 18 log structures being relocated to form the village. The Fort was opened to the public in 1974, as a part of Salem College, which is now known as Salem International University. This historical site provides a unique insight into the past, with each structure representing a different aspect of nineteenth-century life.
