Fort Hartsuff State Historical Park, located six miles southeast of Burwell, Nebraska, is a preserved U.S. Army cavalry outpost from the late 19th century. This park offers a unique glimpse into the past, showcasing the life and operations of a typical cavalry outpost during this period.
Active from 1874 to 1881, Fort Hartsuff has several original structures that have survived the test of time. These include the post headquarters, enlisted men’s barracks, officers’ quarters, commanding officers quarters, and post hospital. Some other buildings have been reconstructed to provide a more comprehensive view of the fort's past.
