Fort Calgary, located at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow rivers in present-day Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was originally an outpost for the North West Mounted Police. Initially named Fort Brisebois after its first commander, the outpost was renamed Fort Calgary in June 1876.
In 1973, the municipal government of Calgary purchased the site of Fort Calgary. Work on an interpretive centre began in 1977, and the site was reopened as a historic site and museum in 1978.
Fort Calgary Historic Park is a 16-hectare (40-acre) historic site located on a grassy flood plain along the south shore of the Bow River, near its junction with the Elbow River. The site features several reconstructions of structures that were originally built within the fort, including the stables, a wagon shed, and barracks modelled after the one built in 1888.

Fort Calgary has 1 rating.
Fort Calgary offers visitors a glimpse into the city's early history and the role of the North West Mounted Police. The museum is located on the original site where Calgary was founded, which adds to its historical significance. Exhibits cover topics such as Indigenous peoples, early settlers, and the development of Calgary.
Visitors generally appreciate the museum's informative displays and interactive elements, which help bring history to life. The reconstructed barracks and officer's quarters provide an authentic feel of 19th-century life. Many find the guided tours to be educational and engaging.
However, some visitors feel that the museum could benefit from updated exhibits and more extensive collections. The size of the museum is relatively small, which can lead to a quick visit for some. A few reviewers mention that the admission price is a bit high for the amount of content available.
The surrounding park area receives positive feedback, offering a pleasant outdoor space to explore after visiting the museum. The gift shop is noted for its selection of local products and souvenirs.
Overall, Fort Calgary is appreciated for its historical value and educational content, but there's room for improvement in terms of exhibit variety and engagement. It's a solid choice for history enthusiasts and those interested in learning about Calgary's origins, but may not appeal to all visitors equally.
