The museum is situated at Chausseestraße 64 in Born a. Darß. It was established in 1996 in the former Forestry Office of the Old Upper Forestry of the municipality, a heritage-protected building. The museum provides a historical context of the region and its forestry practices.
The museum exhibits the history of resin extraction and the biographies of the region's chief foresters since 1815. A significant focus is on the life of Ferdinand von Raesfeld, with first editions of his books on display.
The museum also features specimens of wild animals such as raccoons, badgers, or bitterns. It provides information about the district manager and forester Franz Mueller-Darß, who worked in the region from 1923 to 1945.
