The North Dakota Governor's Residence, situated on the southwest corner of the North Dakota State Capitol grounds in Bismarck, is the official home of the governor of North Dakota. The Original Governor's Mansion

The original governor's mansion, built in 1884, was initially a private home for Bismarck businessman Asa Fisher. This house served as the governor's residence from 1893 to 1960, providing a home for twenty North Dakota governors. This historical building offers a glimpse into the past, showcasing the living conditions and lifestyle of the state's early leaders.

Transfer of Ownership and Renovation of the Original Governor's Mansion

In 1975, the State Legislature passed House Bill 1315, transferring ownership of the original governor's mansion to the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The house underwent renovations to restore its 1893 appearance and was opened to the public as a North Dakota State Historic Site in 1983.
