The Ford House Museum in Mendocino offers visitors a glimpse into the area's history and natural surroundings. Located in a restored 1854 saltbox house, the museum serves as both a visitor center for Mendocino Headlands State Park and a local history museum. Many visitors appreciate the informative exhibits about Mendocino's logging history, early settlers, and the region's flora and fauna. The knowledgeable and friendly docents are often mentioned as a highlight, providing insightful information about the area. Some visitors find the museum small but well-organized, with interesting historical artifacts and photographs. The garden outside is noted for its native plants. However, a few visitors mention that the museum could benefit from updated displays and more interactive elements.
