Villa Regina Margherita, situated in Bordighera in the province of Imperia, is a significant historical site. It was constructed as a summer residence for Queen Margherita of Italy, who passed away in the villa in 1926. This neobaroque style building, surrounded by a park area, is recognized as a monument by the Soprintendenza of the Liguria region.
Since 2011, Villa Margherita has been home to an art collection. This collection, housed in the villa, includes more than 1200 items, including gilded panels from the 14th and 15th centuries, Italian and European still lifes from the period of 1500 to 1800, paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as precious furniture and objects of craftsmanship. A significant collection of porcelain is also on display.
The villa was restored in 2011, thanks to the efforts of the Terruzzi Foundation. It now belongs to the municipality of Bordighera and the province of Imperia. This restoration has allowed the villa to continue serving as a significant cultural and historical site, attracting visitors from around the world.
