Finstergrund and its collection

Finstergrund
Source

The Finstergrund mine, located in Wieden in the Black Forest, is a historical site that was once a medieval silver and lead mine. Today, it serves as a visitor mine, a role it has fulfilled since 1982. This transformation allows tourists to explore the mine's rich history and its modern river and barite mining operations.

Unique Visitor Experience at the Finstergrund Mine

In 1982, the Finstergrund mine was opened to the public as a visitor mine. The site features a 2 km long tunnel, which is part of the modern mining operations, and includes a serviceable mine railway. Unique to the Black Forest, the Finstergrund mine is the only visitor mine that allows visitors to enter using a mine railway, which was put into operation in 2007.
