Finower Wasserturm and its collection

Finower Wasserturm
Source

Constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, the Finower Wasserturm was initially built to supply water to the brass works. However, after the factory was shut down in 1960, the water tower was also taken out of operation in 1964. This historical event marks a significant shift in the region's industrial activities.

Finower Wasserturm as a Regional Museum

Since 2009, the Finower Wasserturm has been repurposed as a regional museum. It now serves to educate visitors about the history of the factory and the tower itself. This transformation has given the tower a new lease of life and made it a significant cultural landmark in the region.

Accessibility of Finower Wasserturm

The Finower Wasserturm is conveniently accessible by city bus from Eberswalde station. Visitors can take line 864 and alight at the Erich-Steinfurth-Straße stop. This easy accessibility makes the tower a convenient destination for tourists exploring the region.

Architectural Design of Finower Wasserturm

The Finower Wasserturm boasts a unique architectural design with a square floor plan and side lengths of eleven meters. Its facades are made of unrendered yellow fired bricks, adding to its distinctive aesthetic appeal. This architectural feature makes the tower a fascinating subject for photography enthusiasts and architecture lovers.

Viewpoint at Finower Wasserturm

One of the highlights of the Finower Wasserturm is the open gallery-like walkway located above the former boiler room. At a height of 44 meters, this walkway can be reached via an internal staircase with 261 steps. Since the shutdown of the tower, this walkway has been used as a viewpoint, offering visitors a panoramic view of the surrounding area.

Barrier-Free Access at Finower Wasserturm

In a bid to make the Finower Wasserturm more accessible, an elevator system for barrier-free access was installed in one of the support towers during the renovation in the 21st century. This feature ensures that the tower can be enjoyed by all visitors, regardless of their mobility levels.
