José Maria Ferreira de Castro was a renowned Portuguese writer and journalist, born on 24 May 1898 and passed away on 29 June 1974. His work in journalism was extensive, and he considered his fiction writing to be an extension of his documentary reporting.
In 1930, Ferreira de Castro published 'A Selva', a work that brought him international recognition and led to his nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literature. This novel received positive reviews in The New York Times and introduced him to Hollywood and the French Pen Club.
