The Felberturm, also known as Burgruine Felben or Velben-Kasten, is a historical site located in the Felben district of the municipality of Mittersill in the Zell am See district in Pinzgau in the state of Salzburg. The tower is part of a typical small castle complex in Pinzgau, of which only the Weyerturm in Bramberg am Wildkogel remains in addition to this one. The tower was probably built in the first half of the 12th century and was home to the family of the Lords of Velben.
Since July 6, 1969, the Felberturm has been home to a local history museum. The museum underwent extensive renovations in 2020 and reopened to the public in July 2021. The museum offers a unique opportunity to delve into the history of the region and the tower itself.
The ground floor of the Felberturm is dedicated to an exhibition on the topic of "Saumhandel". This exhibition brings to life the fates and stories of the packhorses over the Tauern, presented according to the latest museum pedagogical principles. It offers a unique insight into the historical trade routes and practices of the region.
