Between 1938 and 1953, the Ethnography Museum of Ankara played a significant role in the history of Turkey as it temporarily housed the sarcophagus of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. This was during the construction period of Anıtkabir, his final resting place. This historical event adds to the cultural and historical significance of the museum.
