Espace Giono is a museum situated in the small village of Lalley, in the southern part of the Isère department, within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. This museum is dedicated to the French writer Jean Giono, who spent several stays in Lalley and was inspired by the village and its surroundings for his novel 'Un roi sans divertissement'. The museum is housed in a former inn where Giono used to stay during his visits to Lalley.
Visiting the Espace Giono museum requires a paid ticket, however, admission is free for children under twelve years old. This makes it a family-friendly destination where children can learn about French literature and the life of Jean Giono.
The Espace Giono museum features a permanent exhibition of works by Édith Berger, a friend of Giono and a painter from Lalley. In addition to the exhibition, there is an Édith Berger - Jean Giono discovery trail that starts near the museum and extends over 4.5 km in Lalley and its immediate surroundings. This trail includes eight panels presenting paintings of Lalley by Berger and texts by Giono about these places, offering a unique insight into the relationship between the writer and the region.
