The Elijah Iles House, located at 628 S. 7th Street in Springfield, Illinois, is a historic structure that has stood the test of time. Constructed around 1837, the house has remained largely intact for over 182 years, making it the oldest of its kind in Springfield.
The Elijah Iles House is a unique example of Greek Revival design, inspired by Southern architecture. It is one of the few Greek Revival residences in Central Illinois. The house is a timber-framed structure built on a raised brick foundation and consists of three levels: a ground-level basement, the main floor, and a finished attic that served as sleeping quarters.
Since 2005, following the completion of its restoration, the Elijah Iles House has been open to the public. Regular tours are offered on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from April through October, providing visitors with an opportunity to explore this historic site.
