The Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum is located within the campus of Fırat University in Elazığ, Turkey. This location provides a unique setting for the museum, combining the academic atmosphere of the university with the rich historical and cultural heritage of the region.
The museum was originally established in 1965 in Harput, a historical settlement located 5 kilometres to the east of Elazığ. However, during the construction of the Keban Dam and Karakaya Dam, many artifacts were discovered that warranted the establishment of a new museum on the university campus. The museum was officially opened on 28 July 1982.
The Elazığ Archaeology and Ethnography Museum houses a wide range of items from various historical periods. These include the Paleolithic, Neolithic, Chalcolithic, Bronze (Hittites, Hurrians), Iron, Urartu, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljukids and Ottoman ages. This diverse collection provides a comprehensive overview of the region's rich history and cultural heritage.
